Mirasol is defined by the sun, and not just because this is the Sunshine State. Its name is a shortened version of the Spanish command to "look at the sun," but let's instead look at what the sun can do. Let's look at the contour and shadow along the winding streets blooming with tropical flowers and palm trees, and admire how the sun highlights the homes nestled among it all. Let's stop in the wetlands, on the nature trail that wanders through them, and see what the sun can do. And let's consider a sunny morning - azure sky, cool breeze, the ultimate invitation. And then the thought: Golf. Oh, yes! It's going to be a golf day, as so many in Mirasol are. | MirasolGated Country Club Community in elegant Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Mirasol Lifestyle
But beyond the golf, Mirasol is a cornucopia, a neighborhood of three distinct parts: the Country Club at Mirasol, Mirabella at Mirasol and San Merano at Mirasol, a neighborhood of rental apartments. For homeowners in the Country Club and Mirabella, Mirasol is a sunny Palm Beach Gardens haven, spreading from PGA Boulevard to Hood Road in the north, and between Florida's Turnpike and the Loxahatchee Slough. Built over 2,300 acres, the two communities include 30 "villages" and two championship golf courses, as well as 40 lakes, a 15-acre park and 876 acres of preserves, including 240 acres of wetlands. The land on which Mirasol is built was at one time owned by John D. MacArthur. In 1999, Sarasota-based Taylor Woodrow Communities bought the land for $21.05 million and initiated plans for Mirasol. Homes went on sale in 2001 and residents began moving into them in 2002. At build-out, there will be 2,145 homes in Mirasol, with 1,170 homes - the majority single-family but also including 26 condominiums - in the Country Club, said Joel London, a Realtor at Lang Realty. Currently, there are 492 single-family homes in Mirabella, which was developed by Kenco Communities. , Though both are under the umbrella of Mirasol, the Country Club and Mirabella are distinct communities. For some residents, the Country Club is first and foremost about golf. Home to the PGA's Honda Classic for the past four years, Mirasol's golf courses are its jewels. Named the Sunrise Course and the Sunset Course, they were developed by Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills, respectively. They wind past quiet neighborhoods and skirt acres of wetlands. There's also a 50,000-square-foot clubhouse, multiple practice greens, a 20,000-square-foot putting green and a 2 1/2 -acre lesson tee. New homeowners in the Country Club must buy an equity golf or sports membership. As of November 1, 2008, the golf membership is $120,000, with a $15,000 yearly fee. A sports membership is $90,000, with an $8,000 yearly fee. Currently, homeowners receive 80 percent of the market value of their equity membership at the time they sell their homes. But as the option of a sports membership indicates, life isn't just about golf at the Country Club at Mirasol. Residents use Esplanade with its workout center, spa, tennis pro shop and activity rooms. Mirasol staff will even cater some events at the Center. There's always something to do at Mirasol: taking tennis lessons - the community has 15 courts - going to the park and taking walks on the nature trail. On weekends, resdients go to the clubhouse for coffee and bagels, and to meet with their many friends in the neighborhood. In early November 2008 there were 135 properties for sale in the Country Club and Mirabella with homes in the Country Club ranging in price from $519,000 to $4.3 million and homes in Mirabella from $319,000 to $749,000. HOA membership is mandatory, with quarterly fees varying according to village, from $1,350 to $1,763 per quarter in the Country Club - and $690 per month in the Villa Vasari condominiums - and from $1,007 to $1,236 per quarter in Mirabella. The HOA-owned clubhouse is the pride of the community, with its swimming pool, four tennis courts, fitness room, card room and meeting rooms that always are in use. The HOA also puts out a monthly letter listing many community-organized activities: cocktail parties, women's group trips to museums and theaters, boat rides on the Intracoastal and family parties. "There's such a wonderful mix of people here," one resident said. "Families, retired couples, young adults. If you want quiet, you can have quiet, or you can always be doing something. Plus, the location here is very good. The turnpike and I-95 are very close, you have PGA Boulevard with the shopping and restaurants. And we take a lot of courses at the FAU Lifelong Learning Center, which is nearby." But sometimes, you don't want to be busy. Sometimes you just want to be still. You want to sit outside when the air is cool and look out over water and wetland, watching the birds fly by, watching the flowers bloom. Sometimes you just want to look at the sun. |
